Photon is a lamp that I designed when I moved into my flat while studying engineering. The lamp is composed of a wood beam with a stainless steel plate floating a few millimeters below. The wood beam gives rigidity to the cantilevered design. The stainless steel sheet serves multiple purposes: it prevents blinding light from shining directly into the user’s eyes, it reflects part of the light to the sides and ceiling and is sinking the heat from the high power LEDs.
I decided to use a unique support cables arrangement composed of four steel wires. This arrangement gives several benefits: It allows to transport electrical power from the power supply and it guarantees that the lamp sits perfectly level on all axes. The lamp features a clever way for the user to set the XY axes parallel to the ground using only two screws.
I manufactured and sold 10 units.
